Daimler has unveiled the first all-electric school bus, which is called the Saf-T-Liner C2 electric bus or the much easier name, Jouley. The Saf-T-Liner C2 comes from Daimler subsidiary Thomas Built Buses.
On the outside the Jouley looks like a typical school bus, but underneath the skin it’s diesel engine has been swapped out for a a fully electric powertrain with a driving range up to 99 miles. Additional battery packs are optional that will give the Jouley a higher driving range.
Daimler says that the Saf-T-Liner C2 can carry up to 81 students at a time. The Jouley electric bus will start hitting U.S. roads in 2019.
