According to Automotive News, Chrysler may kill the Dodge Avenger to focus on the Chrysler 200 midsize sedan.
Reid Bigland, head of the Dodge brand, recently told Reuters, “Chrysler Group will likely consolidate around one midsize car in the future.” By focusing on a single model, Chrysler can save development and marketing costs. The move would also prevent the models from cannibalizing sales from each other.
Last year Chrysler moved 87,000 200 sedans, while only 64,000 Avengers moved out of Dodge showrooms. Both models’ sales are no where near Toyota’s top-selling Camry that sold over 308,000 units last year.
