We’ve been discussing the possible BMW X4 crossover for a while now, but BMW has officially confirmed the new mini-X6 crossover that will fit in between the X3 and X5 in the lineup.

The new X4 will use the same engines as the X3 and will have get the same coupe-like styling as the X6. BMW is going to invest $900 million in the Spartanburg facility over the next three years and 300 new jobs will be added in 2012. The investment will also allow the plant to produce up to 350,000 units annually.

BMW hasn’t announced when the X4 will be released, but there have been reports that it will be here by 2014.
