When Chevy took the wraps off the updated 2019 Spark, Cruze and Malibu models, there was two things missing – the Sonic and Impala. With car sales taking a nose dive in the past few years, the fact that the Sonic and Impala weren’t mentioned, sparked several rumors about the demise of both models. Well now we at least know that the Chevy Sonic will return for the 2019 model year.
The Car Connection received the confirmation from Chevrolet spokesman Nick Jaynes Morgan, “Sonic will indeed be sold to both retail and fleet customers for 2019 model year.” While the Spark, Cruze and Malibu models got a facelift for 2019, the Sonic will continue into the new model year without any big changes. Sedan and hatchback versions of the Sonic will be available in LT and Premier trim levels.
Last month the Wall Street Journal reported that the Sonic and Impala will disappear from Chevy’s lineup, with the Sonic likely being the first to be discontinued. Since Chevy has confirmed that the Sonic will be offered for 2019, don’t be surprised if next year is its swan song.
