Chevy is making the Chevy Colorado pickup even more capable with the debut of the Chevy Colorado ZR2 AEV concept and ZR2 Race Development Truck at the SEMA Show. Both truck concepts reveal how even more off-road capable the Colorado ZR2 can be with a few additions.
The Colorado ZR2 AEV concept was created in collaboration with American Expedition Vehicles and is powered by a 2.8L Duramax turbo-diesel engine. Some of the performance upgrades include AEV front and rear off-road bumpers, underbody skid protection, expedition bed rack, high clearance fender flares and high-rise snorkel, AEV DualSport beadlock wheels, and 35-inch BF Goodrich KM2 Mud-Terrain tires.
The concept also gets front and rear high output LED auxiliary lighting, an ARB refrigerator/freezer, Equipt aluminum storage cases, NATO-style fuel cans and James Baroud USA awning in the bed Recovery shackles, Hi-Lift jack and a Warn 9.5xp-s winch.
The ZR2 Race Development Truck is also based on the ZR2, but its suspension has been upgraded with a long-travel version of the stock truck’s DSSV shocks, to give it better capability in the desert. It also gets a 1.5-inch body lift, 33-inch Goodyear Wrangler MT/R tires, rear shock skidplates, a rear differential skidplate and an off-road air intake and performance exhaust.
The ZR2 Race Development Truck is powered by the 3.6L V-6 and an eight-speed automatic transmission.
“Colorado has reignited the midsize segment with class-exclusive features and performance,” said Jim Campbell, U.S. vice president, Truck Strategy, Performance Vehicles and Motorsports. “Some customers want even greater capability, and the ZR2 AEV concept and ZR2 Race Development Truck showcase the efforts we’ve made to explore how owners can get even more from their trucks.”
