Ford has already confirmed plans to introduce Mustang hybrid and now Chevy is reportedly looking at the possibility of adding a Camaro hybrid to its lineup.
A few months ago it was reported that Chevy was polling Camaro owners to see how they would respond to a Camaro hybrid with either four cylinder or V8 hybrid powertrain. The survey asked owners to choose between a turbocharged 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder hybrid powertrain with 365 horsepower, a 30 mpg combined rating, and a 0-60 mph time of 4.4 seconds or a 6.2L V8 hybrid powertrain with 545 horsepower, a 24 mpg combined rating, and a 0-60 mph time of 3.7 seconds.
Even with those great specs, neither powertrain would be very cheap, since the four-cylinder powertrain would add $4,000 to the price of the Camaro, while the V8 hybrid powertrain would double that cost at $8,000.
It’s not known which version is preferred from the owners that Chevy polled. Motor Authority reached out to GM to find out more info about a Camaro hybrid. The rep didn’t provide any juicy details, “We routinely survey our customers across all of our vehicles on potential future technologies or features, but that doesn’t mean we are going to institute them.”
We’ll have to wait and see if a Chevy Camaro hybrid is eventually added to the lineup, but in the meantime the Ford Mustang hybrid is slated to arrive in 2020.
