Buick Electra trademarked in US and Canada

It looks like we might be getting a new addition to the Buick lineup, since General Motors has filed trademark applications for the Buick Electra name in the U.S. and Canada.

The trademark application was caught by a Rivian Owners Forum user.

This isn’t the first time that the Electra name has been used, since it was first added for the 1959 model year and stuck around until 1990. At this point it’s not known if the name will be used, although GM did recently use it for a concept in 2020 and in 2012 the name was also trademarked. Although GM and Buick have not made any announcements, the Electra name could be a great name for an electric vehicle.

Buick will introduce two new electric SUVs by 2023, so one of them could be called the Electra.
