Buick is reportedly going to soon offer a diesel powered model in its lineup, according to a source that spoke with Edmunds. It wasn’t revealed which model would be the first to get a diesel engine, but it’s expected that it would be the Verano, since GM recently started offering a four-cylinder diesel engine in the Chevy Cruze, the Verano’s twin.
There is also some news about the popular Encore subcompact crossover, which is going to soon get a more powerful engine. The Encore is currently only powered by a small 1.4L turbocharged engine with 138 horsepower, but GM’s engineers are trying to find a more powerful option. Unfortunately GM’s more powerful 2.0L turbocharged and 2.4L four-cylinder engines won’t fit under the Encore’s hood. GM is now looking at the possibility of using a new 1.6L four-cylinder engine.

The Encore has helped Buick’s sales this year, which are up 15 percent. Customer feedback shows that the Encore would sell even more if it had more power, so expect it to happen soon, possibly by the 2015 model year.
