Convertibles and coupes are a hard sell with most buyers choosing a more practical option, like a sedan or crossover. So it shouldn’t be too surprising that a new report claims that the BMW 2 Series convertible will be discontinued after the current generation’s production run.

2018 BMW 2 Series Convertible

According to BimmerToday, the next-generation 2 Series will only be offered as a coupe, which mean that convertible buyers will have to choose either the larger 4 Series or new Z4 convertibles. BMW hasn’t revealed anything about the next 2 Series, but according to the same report, the next 2 Series will switch to BMW’s CLAR platform and continue to send its power to the rear wheels.

The M240i and M2 models will also return with the next-generation 2 Series. BMW hasn’t confirmed when the next 2 Series will arrive, but some reports claim that it could launch in 2020.
