Although a new report claims that BMW may not create another i8 after the current model’s run, there’s a chance that BMW may introduce a more powerful version of the current i8. Following the release of the 2018 i3s, BMW is currently thinking about introducing a more powerful i8, which may be called the BMW i8s.

2019 BMW i8

BMW i Product Management Alexander Kotouc spoke to Auto Express at this week’s Detroit Auto Show, where he revealed that a more powerful i8 is a possibility.

“I can tell you at this point we are still evaluating it; the i8 is the iconic sports car of the new era”, Kotouc stated. “Yes, there is customer demand for a more powerful version, but it needs to make sense for our brand. You could put a V12 in there and it would be incredibly powerful, but would it still be a BMW i car? We need to find the perfect balance.”

The 2019 BMW i8 debuted a few months ago with slightly more power with a total 369 horsepower being generated from its 1.5L three-cylinder engine and electric motor. Although BMW hasn’t made an official decision about a more powerful i8, there’s already customer demand for it.

“There is a customer need and desire to have more power and we will try to fulfill it while also keeping our DNA authentic,” he stated.
