BMW may be focusing on electrifying its regular lineup, like the 3 Series, but that doesn’t mean that the BMW i sub-brand is done. BMW has released a teaser of its third model for the BMW i family, the BMW i8 Roadster.

The long awaited BMW i8 Roadster is finally going to enter production after BMW teased us with the BMW i8 Spyder concept five years ago. The i8 Roadster will arrive sometime in 2018. Even though it’s roof will be removed, the i8 Roadster will retain the butterfly doors. The i8 Roadster is also expected to have a soft-top that you’ll have to manually remove.

The i8 and i8 Roadster are expected to get a facelift, which will include new LED headlights, restyled front and rear bumpers and updated alloy wheels. THe i8 will also get a slight power boost, which will reportedly be around 10 percent better than the current model, giving it around 420 horsepower.

The new i8 and i8 Roadster will debut in September at the Frankfurt Motor Show, with both models going on sale in early 2018.
