BMW has finally unveiled the 2019 BMW 8 Series coupe, which is going to go on sale in November. After teasing us with concepts and prototypes of the 8 Series coupe, today’s debut isn’t all that surprising.
The good news is that if you liked the concept, you’ll be happy to see that the production version hasn’t changed too much. At the front the 2019 8 Series features the slimmest headlights of any BMW model to date with LED headlights as standard. Adaptive LED Headlights and BMW Laserlight lights are optional.
When the 2019 8 Series arrives, it will initially be offered with a choice of two engines that both send the power to all four wheels. The M850i XDerive is powered by a bi-turbo 4.4L V8 with 523 horsepower and 553 lb-ft. of torque. The V8 is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. BMW estimates a 0-62 mph time of 3.7 seconds and a top speed of 155 mph.
The 2019 840d xDrive will be powered by a 3.0L six-cylinder diesel engine with 320 horsepower and 501 lb-ft. of torque. The six-cylinder diesel engine is also mated to an eight speed automatic and gives the 8 Series coupe a 0-62 mph time of 4.9 seconds and a top speed of 155 mph. Sadly this engine will only be offered in Europe.
Inside the 2019 BMW 8 Series coupe features a customizable 10.25-inch digital display in front of the driver and a second 12.3-inch infotainment system sits directly in the middle of the dashboard. Wireless charging, the BMW Display Key and a Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System are optional.
BMW has yet to reveal the 8 Series convertible and an M8 will soon join the lineup.
