The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has announced that the 2018 Kia Niro has earned its highest rating possible – Top Safety Pick+ if you select the optional front crash prevention and HID headlights.

2018 Kia Niro Plug-in Hybrid

To qualify for the 2018 Top Safety Pick+ award, the IIHS says that a vehicle must have good ratings in the driver-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint tests, as well as an acceptable or good rating in the passenger-side small overlap front test. It also must earn an advanced or superior rating for front crash prevention and a good headlight rating.

The 2018 Kia Niro received good ratings in all the IIHS crashworthiness tests, including the new passenger-side small overlap front test. The Top Safety Pick+ rating also applies to the Niro Plug-In Hybrid.

The front crash prevention is optional on the regular Niro hybrid, but it’s standard on the Niro plug-in hybrid. The Niro’s front crash prevention system avoided collisions in the 12 mph and 25 mph IIHS track tests.
