Earlier this year BMW confirmed that the i4 will be its next addition to the i sub-brand. The BMW i4 electric car is slated to arrive in 2021 and now BMW has dropped a few more details about what we can expect.

BMW i Vision Dynamics

Speaking to Auto Express, BMW’s head of i division, Robert Irlinger revealed that the BMW i4 will closely related to the next-generation 4 Series. The BMW i Vision Dynamics concept is our closest preview of what we can expect the i4 to look like, but BMW has also confirmed that it will look very close to the next 4 Series, just like how the iX3 electric SUV is nearly identical to the X3.

“The vehicles will be closer to the cars we have already in market,” Irlinger stated. “Look at the iX3; it’s really an i but it’s also an X3. Look at the i4 and you’ll see it’s clearly an i but it’s close to a car whose name may begin with 4. We have to be prepared that our customers could say, ‘I don’t want to have a specific car. I want to have my BMW that I love, in an electrified version.”

The BMW i4 will be a direct rival to the Tesla Model 3 and to help it compete with the top selling electric car, the i4 will have a driving range up to 375 miles. BMW could offer different battery options for the i4, but it’s skeptical, since it expects that buyers will automatically choose the bigger battery. For buyers that want an even longer driving range, the iNext will be able to drive up to 435 miles on a single charge.
