BMW has announced that the current generation BMW 3 Series will end production this October. Production will end this fall, making way for the all-new 3 Series that is expected to go on sale in the spring of 2012.

The all-new 3 Series will be built on a new modular platform, with overall proportions that are similar to the current model. The final design will be more muscular with styling that is similar to the 5 Series. The sedan is expected to have a longer wheelbase and the front end will feature a “pushing nose” that is similar to the front end of the Z4 roadster.

The next-generation 3 Series will be powered by a range of turbocharged 4-cylinder and naturally aspirated and turbocharged 6-cylinder engines.
