Audi R&D boss Ulrich Hackenberg wants to add more hardcore RS models to the Audi lineup, which would help differentiate the brand from the rest of the VW Group. Hackenburg insists that Audi vehicles must have their own powertrains to make them distinct from other vehicles under the VW umbrella.
Hackenburg originally joined Audi in 1985 and has held several jobs within the VW group. His biggest decisions yet have been to reinstate plans for the electric R8 e-tron and for a new Audi styling language that will give more differentiation between the model lines. If Hackenburg has his way, almost every Audi model line will be topped off with a high-performance RS model.
