Audi may have just recently introduced its new Q8 flagship SUV, but the Q8 may not hold the title too long. Audi is currently looking at the possibility of introducing a new range topping model, called the Q9.

Audi hasn’t confirmed that it will introduce a new Q9 crossover, but the automaker has hinted several times that it is a possibility. Autocar recently asked former Audi CEO Rupert Stadler if it’s planning on introducing the Q9, where he simply stated, “The customers will tell us what they want in the future.”

Autocar didn’t stop with the recently ousted CEO and asked the same question to Audi’s design boss Marc Lichte, who stated, “We have so many ideas, so many ideas…” While neither exec confirmed the Q8, they also didn’t deny it. The Q9 could be positioned as a Range Rover rival, since the British SUV currently doesn’t have much competition.

While the Audi Q9 seems like it will happen, one other thing isn’t in the cards – a smaller entry-level crossover. The current Audi Q2 will remain the smallest crossover in the lineup. “I think we are well equipped with Q2 because this is already a premium product at the right price point,” Stadler stated when Autocar asked about a Q1. “The A1 is our car for very young people. Possibilities below that get tighter.”
