Earlier this month it was reported that the next-generation Audi TT would ditch the current coupe and convertible versions for a more versatile four-door layout. The report claimed that the four-door TT would be inspired by the TT Sportback concept from a few years ago, but now Audi has quickly killed those rumors.

Audi TT Sporback concept

Peter Oberndorfer, Audi’s global head of PR was recently interviewed by Car Advice where he stated, “Where the recent stories came from, I don’t know. I don’t know about a four-door TT.” With the decline of coupes and convertibles, the rumor did seem like it could have been true, especially since Audi did tease us with the four-door TT Sportback concept.

But sadly it looks like it isn’t going to happen. Oberndorfer also stated, “Actually we had the idea of a TT ‘family,’ so to speak. Not so much anymore.” While sales of the TT have declined, Oberndorfer ended with “So we’re quite happy with one TT at the moment.”
