There have been rumors circulating that the Audi R8 is going to get a 2.9L biturbo V6 engine, but according to an Audi spokesman, the rumors are false. The rumors claim that Audi is going to unveil the V6 powered R8 next week at the New York Auto Show, but according to an interview with Road & Track, it isn’t happening.
According to the Audi spokesman who spoke with the magazine, “there is no V6 planned for the R8.” Although the spokesman says that the V6 engine isn’t happening for the R8, it’s actually been rumored for a few years. A company plan even leaked two years ago that stated that an R8 with a V6 would arrive in 2018.
Maybe back then Audi did plan on introducing a V6-powered Audi R8, but now those plans have reportedly been shelved. Even the fate of the R8 is in jeopardy, since Audi is currently not even working on a third generation R8.
