Last week Acura officially brought back the Type S moniker with the debut of the 2021 Acura TLX Type S, but the good news is that Type S is going to be added to the next-generation MDX as well. But what about the ILX? Well a new report might shed some light on what Acura has planned for its smallest model.
Autoblog discovered a forum post on Acurazine apparently shows a screenshot from a presentation during Acura’s 2020 dealer meeting. The screenshot shows Acura’s product roadmap to 2022.
The slide already shows the new TLX Type S, which will then be followed by the new MDX, which will also have a high performance Type S variant. What’s after that? The slide lists a “new compact sedan”, which will also have a Type S variant. What’s interesting is that the slide doesn’t list the name of the new compact sedan, which could mean that Acura is ditching the ILX name.
In the past Acura’s compact model was called the Integra and then the RSX. Could Acura be bringing back one of those names? We’ll have to wait and see, but if the slide is correct, the new compact sedan will arrive by 2022.
