A new report claims that Ford is currently working on a longer version of the Ford Escape, which will offer three rows of seats to be able to fit up to seven passengers. It’s been rumored for a while, but now a new report is giving us a bit more info about the bigger Escape.

Ford Authority is reporting that the long-wheelbase Escape is still currently under development and internally it’s called the CX430. It’s based on the same C2 platform as the standard Escape, but it has a longer wheelbase and a boxier roofline than the two-row Escape.

Inside the second row will slide to give access to the third row and to also change the amount of legroom in both the second and third rows.

The powertrain lineup should be the same as the two-row Escape.

Now the big question is, where will the three-row Escape be sold? It’s pretty much a given that it will be sold in Europe, but will it be offered in the US as well? We’ll have to wait and see, but the three-row Escape is expected to arrive by 2022.
