For the 2027 model year the Nissan Pathfinder is 40, and to mark the occasion Nissan has put together a new Special Edition that harkens back to the SUV’s boxier, more rugged roots.

2027 Nissan Pathfinder Special Edition

The 2027 Nissan Pathfinder Special Edition will be on sale in November with the rest of the lineup. It comes with some heritage styling, a two-tone interior of its own and an assortment of popular features as standard. Pricing starts at $47,390 for front-wheel drive and $49,390 with AWD. For comparison, the regular 2027 Pathfinder is $39,990.

A Nod to the Original 1987 Pathfinder

When the Pathfinder was first introduced in 1987 it was a compact, truck-like two-door, nothing like the three-row family SUV of today. Over five generations the nameplate has become a larger and more refined crossover. While Nissan is not making an exact replica of the first generation for this anniversary, there are some intentional throwbacks.

Inside the Special Edition is where one will notice it most in the form of a black-and-burgundy two-tone TailorFit interior. The burgundy is meant to call to mind the deep red cloth of the 1987 original and lends a bit of retro character to the modern cabin. Out back, red accents such as the PATHFINDER lettering on the liftgate and black 20-inch alloy wheels give the vehicle a more distinctive air.

Nissan has equipped the Pathfinder Special Edition so it is not just a matter of trim and badges. As standard there is a panoramic moonroof, second-row captain’s chairs, rear door sunshades and a 12-speaker Bose premium audio system.

There is also a factory tow hitch receiver, which allows for up to 6,000 pounds of towing when set up right. That is of some use to the buyer who intends to put a small camper or boat behind it and not merely look at the retro interior.
