It is now official: Honda has put the word out that a next-generation Honda Ridgeline is in the works. In an announcement made today, the automaker said it is busy with development on what will be the third-generation of the model, and one can expect to see it on the road in the next two or so years with a sturdier look and better all-round capability.
To mark the occasion, Honda has put forward the first teaser of the reworked pickup. There are not many particulars to be had from the picture, but the next-generation Ridgeline is shown with a more upright and squared-off front. It is a tougher mien for the midsize truck, one that is very much in the vein of the styling you will find on the new Honda Passport.
“America’s truck market has been the beneficiary of some very innovative technologies and features from the award-winning Ridgeline over the past 20 years,” said Lance Woelfer, vice president of Auto Sales at American Honda Motor Co., Inc. “We have put first the kind of capabilities that recreational buyers make use of. The next Ridgeline will build on that legacy with even more ruggedness in its design and function, and our people in Alabama will continue to be the ones building it.”
As for what is under the hood or inside the cabin of the third-generation Honda Ridgeline, Honda has yet to say. Those details will likely come as the debut date nears.
The company did confirm what had been reported before, namely that the Alabama plant will have to put the current Ridgeline on hold later this year in order to get ready for the redesign.
