Mercedes-Benz is getting ready to expand its most iconic off-roader, and this time, it’s going open-top. After an overwhelmingly positive reaction to the first teaser, prototypes of the upcoming open-top version of the Mercedes‑Benz G‑Class are now hitting public roads for testing.

The automaker has started initial development drives in Austria, where engineers are logging early test miles and gathering data to ensure the convertible G maintains everything fans expect from the model. From there, the prototypes will head north to Sweden for full winter evaluations, where sub-zero temperatures, deep snow, and icy surfaces will push durability and off-road performance to their limits.
Mercedes-Benz says the new open-top G-Class is designed to “redefine expectations,” blending the brand’s heritage with a fresh sense of adventure. Full details, specs, and timing will come later.
Stay tuned.
