Mitsubishi has largely been forgotten mainly due to its small, aged lineup. Well that will change soon since, Mitsubishi plans to release a new or updated model every year between 2026 and 2030. Now Mitsubishi has announced at least one of the new cars we’re getting, a fully electric model that will be based on the next-generation Nissan Leaf.

2026 Nissan Leaf

The new BEV will be available in summer 2026. The new Leaf is going to switch from a hatchback to a small SUV, which means that Mitsubishi’s new EV will likely also be a small SUV. In Mitsubishi’s teaser of its new models, we can see that the EV will have a similar headlight pattern as the 2026 Leaf.

Nissan recently released the first photos of the redesigned 2026 Nissan Leaf, which will be based on the same platform as the Ariya. It will also arrive with the NACS charge port installed. Nissan has already confirmed that the new Leaf will not be available with all-wheel drive, which likely means that it will be powered by a single front mounted motor. We expect the Mitsubishi version to have a similar powertrain.
