Mercedes-Benz is completely reimagining one of its most popular cars. The 2027 C-Class is now all-electric, and it’s much more than just a current C-Class with a battery – it’s a substantial overhaul of the brand’s smaller luxury vehicle. It has more power, a considerably longer driving range, and a cabin loaded with technology taken from the S-Class, and is clearly intended to change what people expect from a luxury sedan in this size class.

The C 400 4Matic Electric leads the initial range, boasting 482 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque from its two motors. This gets the car from 0 to 60 mph in a quick 3.9 seconds. The range is also excellent; Mercedes says it will go up to roughly 472 miles using WLTP figures on a single charge. This is helped by a 94-kWh battery and better aerodynamics.
Importantly for day-to-day driving, the 800-volt system can add up to about 200 miles of range in only ten minutes using a fast DC charger.
The new C-Class has a sportier look, with a shape like a coupe, shorter sections at the front and rear, and a more defined back end giving it a more dynamic appearance than before. At the front, there’s a grille with over 1,000 lights, and new headlights shaped like stars. The rear lights also have a star pattern, creating a more up-to-date and specifically electric design.

Inside, the changes are immediately noticeable. The C-Class now uses a platform created specifically for electric vehicles, which means more space inside and a completely redesigned interior. A huge 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen, stretching across the dashboard, is the main feature, giving both the driver and passenger a totally digital experience.
Mercedes is also really focusing on the atmosphere in the cabin, with the lighting, sounds and materials all working together to create a more enveloping experience. You can even get a panoramic sunroof with 162 lit “stars”, making the roof into a light show you can change. The quality of the materials has also improved. You can choose from Nappa leather with detailed stitching, or a completely vegan interior covering almost all the soft surfaces.

However, the extra performance hasn’t led Mercedes to forget the C-Class’s usual emphasis on comfort. Optional Airmatic air suspension and rear steering are available, to improve both the smoothness of the ride and how easily the car handles. The cabin has been designed to be very quiet, with extra insulation, laminated glass and adjustments specific to electric cars to reduce shaking and road noise. New front seats with massage, cooling and even sound built into them are also available, further improving comfort on longer trips.
The 2027 C-Class also gets Mercedes’ new MB.OS operating system, controlling everything from the entertainment system to the driving aids. A major improvement is the next version of MBUX, which uses AI from several sources – including ChatGPT and Google – to make the voice assistant more able to have a conversation. It’s meant to deal with more complicated requests and even remember what you’ve talked about. The navigation system has also been improved for electric cars, automatically planning your route including charging stops, traffic and how much energy will be used, to get you there in the fastest time.

We’ll have to wait until the first half of 2027 when it arrives in US dealerships to see how it actually performs, but based on the specifications, this is one of the most important changes the C-Class has ever had.
