Hyundai is making its biggest all-electric SUV, the three-row Ioniq 9, a bit bolder and more luxurious. They’ve introduced the 2027 Ioniq 9 AWD Performance Calligraphy Black Ink, a top-of-the-line version with lots of blacked-out styling and a plusher feel.

It was shown off near Hyundai’s new factory in Georgia, and while the Black Ink doesn’t change the Ioniq 9 at its core, it does look more striking in the increasingly competitive luxury electric SUV market.
How does it look? Exactly as the name suggests. Gloss black and black chrome have been used on the front skid plate, trim, and even the Hyundai logo. It has special 21-inch black turbine wheels which give this already large SUV an even more imposing look. The Abyss Black Pearl paint makes the whole thing appear cleaner, more unified and, arguably, more expensive, though these are mostly cosmetic changes.

The dark theme continues inside with a completely black interior, black aluminum accents, and a more subtle, less cluttered cabin.
But the Ioniq 9 Black Ink still prioritizes being comfortable and practical. It seats six, and the first and second row seats are “Relaxation Seats” – they recline and are ventilated, and the third row is heated. Hyundai is also being environmentally conscious, using an eco-suede headliner made from corn and interior trim intended to seem more carefully made than what you’d normally get in a standard car.
Underneath the new look, the Black Ink uses the same powerful dual-motor system as the highest spec Ioniq 9s: 422 horsepower, 516 lb-ft of torque and all-wheel drive.

It’s powered by a 110.3-kWh battery and Hyundai’s 800-volt system for incredibly fast charging – ideally around 24 minutes to go from 10% to 80%. Plus, it now has a native NACS port, so it will be easier to use Tesla’s growing network of chargers.
Inside, the Ioniq 9 continues to have lots of technology including a head-up display, Bose sound system, a digital rearview mirror, and Remote Smart Parking Assist 2. It also offers vehicle-to-load functionality and many powerful USB-C ports in all three rows.
Hyundai says the 2027 Ioniq 9 Calligraphy Black Ink will be made at their new Metaplant in Georgia and should be in showrooms this summer.

It’s not a total overhaul of the Ioniq 9, and it didn’t need to be. Instead, Hyundai is concentrating on the design and how luxurious it feels, offering a darker, more upscale option to help it be noticed in the quickly expanding market for three-row electric SUVs. It remains to be seen if it will lure people away from established luxury brands, but it shows Hyundai is continuing to make the Ioniq range more and more high-end.
