We recently tested the i7 xDrive60, which we wished had a bit more power. Well BMW has answered that with the introduction of the 2024 i7 M70 xDrive, which arrives with 650 horsepower.

The i7 M70 xDrive is more powerful than the i40 M50 and ix M60 EVs. At the rear there’s a 483 horsepower electric motor and at the front there’s a 255 hp electric motor, giving it all-wheel drive. In Sport mode it has 748 pound-feet of torque, but activated the M Launch Control or the M Sport Boost function raises that number to 811 lb-ft. BMW says that the i7 M70 Xdrive can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds and it has an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph. Those specs mean that the i7 M70 is BMW’s quickest EV.

The i70 M70 xDrive also gets a sportier adaptive air suspension with electronically controlled dampers from the M division. The chassis is also stiffer and rear-wheel steering will make it more fun to drive. Behind the wheels there are blue calipers, which can be colored in black if you want. It rides on 21-inch wheels, but 20-inch wheels wrapped in performance tires are optional.

Even with all that extra power, the 101.4-kWh battery gives the i7 M70 xDrive a 295 mile range. It can support DC fast-charging up to 195 kw, which means that the battery can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in 34 minutes. To get the maximum range, there’s a new Max Range drive mode that limits the top speed to 56 mph, lowers the available power and deactivates the climate control, heated and ventilated seats and the heated steering wheel.

On the outside, the M70 version stands out from the rest of the i7 lineup with its side skirts, black trim and a rear diffuser. If you opt for the M Performance Professional package, a black spoiler and extra black trim are added. It’s also available with two-tone paint.

BMW has not announced the pricing for the 2024 BMW i7 M70 xDrive, but it will arrive in the second half of this year.
