We’re still eager to see Polestar’s future models, but in the meantime, it’s announced the updates to the 2023 Polestar 2 electric sedan. This includes new wheel designs, new color options and a few tech upgrades.
Starting with the outside, the 2023 Polestar 2 is available in two new colors: Space and Jupiter. It also gets new standard 19-inch wheels and optional 20-inch wheels. Inside there’s a new Zinc grey color for the Nappa leather seats and an available Light Ash deco trim. The interior air quality also improves thanks to a new cabin filter and upgraded interior particulate matter sensor.
On the tech front, the mechanical heat pump has an improved optimal temperature range, now between 20°F and 77°F, which helps increase the driving range in cold conditions. Polestar also gave the Polestar 3 a new aluminum tray that carries the battery casing, which will see a reduction in carbon emissions (CO2e) of 1,653 pounds per car, thanks to the decision to only purchase aluminum for this component from suppliers that use renewable energy.
“In our program updates we want to take action on improvements that can make a positive sustainability impact quickly, rather than traditional mid-cycle facelifts. Product optimization programs are common in the car industry, but we are taking an extended approach at Polestar, combining these with CO2e reduction programs as well, stated Fredrika Klarén, Polestar’s Head of Sustainability. “A first pilot has been rolled out, replacing the aluminum in the wheels with low-carbon aluminum that is produced using renewable energy. We expect this to result in a 1,322 pound CO2e reduction per car for Polestar 2 in the second half of the year. Together with the improvements to aluminum in the battery tray, we’re expecting to see a total reduction of around 2,976 pounds per car.”
