Fans of the 2022 Toyota GR 86 are in for a treat this week, since the new GR86 has been named as the official pace car of NASA’s National Championship. It will kick off its pace car role this Thursday, September 16 at Daytona International Speedway. The races take place on Sunday, September 19.
The GR 86 pace car will lead each of the 25+ classes and approximately 400 competitors at the National Championship event. The GR 86 pace car features red, white and black graphics.
“It’s really an honor to have Toyota step up with the GR 86 as the pace car of our marquee championship event,” said Jeremey Croiset, vice president of NASA. “I can’t think of a more perfect car for this, and I know a ton of our competitors will be eyeing it for their next street or track car!”
The 2022 GR 86 is slated to go on sale in October. It’s now powered by a naturally-aspirated four-cylinder boxer engine with 228 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. Buyers can choose either a manual or automatic transmission.
