The 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander is now one of the safest small SUVs you can buy, since the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has announced that it has received its highest rating – Top Safety Pick+.
The caveat is that the award is only for Outlander models built after June 2021. The earlier version did not receive the award, since its LED reflector headlights were rated as poor, due to excessive glare. Mitsubishi adjusted the headlights to reduce the glare and if you do own an earlier 2022 Outlander, you can take it to your dealer for a no-cost adjustment to the headlights.
To earn the Top Safety Pick+ award, a vehicle must earn good ratings in all six IIHS crash tests, including the driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint tests. The vehicle also be available with a front crash prevention system that earns advanced or superior ratings in both the vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian evaluations.
Now that its headlights are rated as good, the 2022 Outlander has received the highest safety rating.
