Ford continues to upgrade the F-150 and now it’s unveiled some new technologies that will make the F-150 an even better work truck. The new Onboard Scales and Smart Hitch system will help owners tow and haul their gear.
The new Onboard Scales help owners get a better idea of how much they are hauling in their F-150. The scales measure and display the approximate weight of the payload in the truck. Load information is displayed in the center touchscreen, on a mobile phone through the FordPass app or in graphics within the truck’s smart taillamps.
The smart taillamps display the percentage of payload capacity by illuminating LEDs arranged in a built-in vertical bar. As the truck is loaded, all four lights illuminate, showing it’s fully loaded. If the truck is overloaded, the top lights blink.
The new Smart Hitch helps owners load their trailers easier. The Smart Hitch measures the tongue weight of a trailer being connected, to help the customer distribute trailer weight correctly. The system calculates the tongue weight and then provides guidance on weight distribution or hitch overloading on the screen, on the FordPass app or within the smart taillamps.
Lastly the available continuously controlled damping system improves the ride and handling of the F-150.
The Onboard Scales, Smart Hitch, and Continuously Controlled Damping will be available this summer on the Ford F-150.
