If you’ve wanted an all-wheel drive sedan, up until now your only option has been the Subaru Legacy, but now Nissan and Toyota have jumped into the ring with all-wheel drive versions of the Altima and Camry. The all-wheel drive Altima beat the Camry AWD to the market, but now Toyota is ready to take on Nissan and Subaru with the 2020 Camry AWD.

The good news is that the all-wheel drive Camry only costs $1,400 more than the front-wheel drive version. The all-wheel drive Camry LE starts at $27,325, compared to $25,925 for the front-wheel-drive Camry LE. All-wheel drive is available on the LE, SE, XLE, XSE, and Nightshade models.

The Camry AWD is powered by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 202 horsepower and up to 50 percent of the torque can be sent to the rear wheels. When all-wheel drive isn’t needed the system decouples from the rear axle.

The 2020 Toyota Camry AWD will arrive this spring. If you want an all-wheel drive version of the Avalon, that’s coming too for the 2021 model year.
