The all-new 2020 Kia Soul just debuted at the LA Auto Show. Its boxy shape is similar to the previous two generations, but now it looks more modern than ever.
For the third-generation 2020 Kia Soul, Kia decided to keep everything that buyers have loved about the Soul with its funky shape, but then added in the latest tech features, wrapped in new sheetmetal that looks more upscale than before.
At the front the 2020 Soul’s face has been streamlined with slimmer headlights, but below them there’s now a larger more aggressive grille. As you move to the back, the biggest change you’ll notice are new wraparound boomerang-shaped taillights. Kia also says that the C-pillars were designed to represent airplane wings.
The 2020 Soul is also now 2.2-inches longer, with a 1.2-inch longer wheelbase.
Inside the interior has been fully redesigned, but most of the dimensions are nearly identical to the last Soul, except for the cargo capacity, which has been increased by 5 cubic feet.
At the front there’s a new 10.25-inch touchscreen and an available 8-inch head-up display. If music is your thing, a 640-watt Harman Kardon audio system is also available. The 2020 Soul is also available with a long list of safety tech, like Forward Collision Avoidance, Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Changing Assist, Driver Attention Warning, Blind-spot Collision Warning, Rear Cross Collision Warning, and Smart Cruise Control.
The 2020 Soul will offer several powertrains to choose from. The base engine is a 2.0L four-cylinder with 147-hp and 132 lb-ft. of torque that’s mated to a six-speed manual or Kia’s new Intelligent Variable Transmission. If you want more power there’s a 1.6L turbocharged four-cylinder with 201-hp and 195 lb-ft. that’s mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The Soul EV is powered by a 201-hp electric motor and a 64 kWh battery pack. Kia has not announced the driving range for the 2020 Soul EV.
Moving past the engine options, there are new trim levels as well, like the sporty GT-Line and rugged X-Line trim levels. There’s also a new EX Designer Collection trim level with a two-tone roof.
