The wait is over! Jeep has officially unveiled the 2020 Jeep Gladiator pickup truck today at the LA Auto Show. The 2020 Gladiator takes everything that we love about the Wrangler, but then adds a five-foot bed with a 1,600 pound payload capacity.
Jeep says that the 2020 Gladiator is the “most capable midsize truck ever” with its 7,650 pound towing capacity, ability to travel in water up to 30 inches and its Command-Trac and Rock-Trac 4×4 systems.
The 2020 Jeep Gladiator looks almost identical to the Wrangler from the front, but there are some unique differences, like wider grille slots in the front fascia to add extra air to flow to the powertrain. At the rear it gets traditional square taillights and the tailgate is capable of stopping in three positions. The bed also features under-rail bed lighting, an available covered external power source and strong integrated tie-downs.
There’s also an available Trail Rail Cargo Management System. If you want the coolest version, you’ll want to get the Sunrider soft top which gives the Gladiator an open-air option.
At launch the 2020 Gladiator will be powered by a 3.6L Pentastar V6 with 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft. of torque that can be mated to either a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission.
In 2020 the Gladiator will be available with a 3.0L EcoDiesel engine with 260 horsepower and 442 lb-ft. of torque. The diesel engine can only be mated to the eight-speed automatic.
Buyers can choose from two 4×4 systems. The Command-Trac 4×4 system is standard on Sport and Overland. It features a two-speed transfer case with a 2.72:1 low-range gear ratio and Dana 44 front and rear axles with a 3.73 rear axle ratio.
The Gladiator Rubicon gets a Rock-Trac 4×4 system with Dana 44 front and rear axles with a “4LO” ratio of 4:1. A 4.10 front and rear axle ratio is standard as are Tru-Lok locking differentials.
Production of the 2020 Jeep Gladiator will begin in the first half of 2019.
