Ford is hard at work getting the all-new 2020 Ford Explorer ready and although Ford teased the new Explorer with a preview of the 2020 Explorer Police Interceptor Utility, Ford has been keeping most of the details under wraps. Well now a leaked order guide is providing some clues about what will power the 2020 Explorer.

2020 Ford Explorer Police Interceptor Utility

Jalopnik got its hands on an order guide for the 2020 Explorer Police Interceptor Utility, which reveals that the police cruiser will be available with three engine options: a 3.3L V6, 3.3L V6 Hybrid, and a 3.0L V6 EcoBoost. All of the engines will be mated to a 10-speed automatic and an all-wheel drive system in the police version.

The order guide doesn’t provide any details about the consumer version of the 2020 Explorer, but it’s being reported that it will get the same three V6 engine options as the police version. According to another report, the 2020 Ford Explorer will also be available with a 2.3L EcoBoost four-cylinder in the base, XLT, and Limited trim levels. The 3.3L V6 Hybrid will only be available on the Limited trim level, while the 3.0L EcoBoost V6 will power the ST and Platinum trim levels. The naturally aspirated 3.3L V6 will only be available on the base trim level.

Ford is also working on a plug-in hybrid version of the Explorer, but it won’t be available when the 2020 Explorer launches in the U.S.
