Toyota has unveiled the fifth-generation 2019 Toyota RAV4 at the New York Auto Show. The 2019 RAV4 has been completely revamped with a new platform, slightly larger dimensions and the latest technology, including Apple CarPlay and Amazon Alexa compatibility.
The 2019 Toyota RAV4 is now based on Toyota’s new TNGA K platform. Its now 0.4-inches wider and its wheelbase has been stretched by 1.2-inches, but its now 0.2-inches shorter. On the outside the 2019 RAV4 looks pretty close to the FT-AC concept that debuted last year. It’s styling is a lot more expressive than before and its chiseled exterior gives it a more athletic look than the last generation RAV4.
Just like with the 2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback, Toyota is placing a greater emphasis on the driving experience with the 2019 RAV4. The new RAV4’s unibody chassis is 57 percent more rigid than its predecessor and its multi-link rear suspension has been retuned to provide better handling, minimum interior cabin noise, and the better ride comfort. The 2019 RAV’s ground clearance has also been increased by more than half an inch.
The 2019 RAV4 will be offered with two engine options and both are called Dynamic Force engines. There’s the standard 2.5L four-cylinder that’s mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission or if you want something a more fuel efficient you can get the RAV4 Hybrid with the same 2.5L four-cylinder that’s mated to an electric motor and CVT. The new Dynamic Torque Vectoring All-Wheel Drive system can send 50 percent of engine torque to the rear wheels, plus distribute it to the left or right rear wheel. When AWD isn’t required the RAV4 can achieve better fuel economy thanks to the Rear Driveline Disconnect system. The new AWD system is one of three available on the all-new RAV4, including the AWD-i system available on hybrid grades and the non-Dynamic Torque Vectoring AWD system available on non-hybrid models.
Inside every 2019 RAV4 is equipped with Entune 3.0 multimedia including Wi-Fi Connect powered by Verizon, Amazon Alexa, and Apple CarPlay compatibility.
The 2019 RAV4 will be available in several trim levels, including the XSE Hybrid and the RAV4 Adventure. The 2019 Toyota RAV4 will arrive at the end of 2018, while the hybrid models will arrive in early 2019.
