We’re still waiting for the next-generation Subaru WRX and Subaru WRX STI, but in the meantime Subaru may be giving the 2019 Subaru WRX STI some upgrades. Subaru recently submitted a VIN decoder document to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which shows that the 2019 WRX STI is getting more horsepower.
Sorry to disappoint you here if you were expecting some big horsepower increase, since the document only shows that the 2019 Subaru WRX STI will have 310 horsepower – five more than the 2018 model. The document was dated April 11th and states that the turbocharged 2.5L four-cylinder will have 310 horsepower. The 2019 WRX will keep its 268-hp 2.0L four-cylinder.
If you’re keeping track, the 310 horsepower rating is the same as the limited edition STI Type RA. We’ll have to wait and see if there are any other upgrades to the 2019 Subaru WRX STI.
Subaru has yet to confirm the report, but if it is true we should hear more about soon.
