Mazda hasn’t made any announcements about the 2019 Mazda MX-5 Miata, but there are reports that it will be getting several upgrades. It was reported last month that the 2019 MX-5 Miata will get a nice power increase, but now we have a bit more details about the other changes.
Road & Track is reporting that the 2.0L is getting some big upgrades that will give it 181 horsepower and 151 lb-ft. of torque, which is 26 more horsepower and 3 more lb-ft. than the current engine. While a turbocharged Miata would be nice, the 2.0L is getting more power thanks to new Ultra-light pistons, lighter connecting rods, a new crankshaft, and a increased rev capacity. The revised 2.0L engine will also have larger intake and exhaust ports and a new throttle body. Lastly the 2019 MX-5 Miata will come with a dual-mass flywheel that Mazda claims is needed to handle some of the noise, vibration, and harshness issues brought on by the more powerful engine.
Inside the 2019 MX-5 Miata will also be getting one of other big change – the deletion of the CD player. On the safety front the Smart City Braking System will be optional and a rearview camera is finally being added. A telescoping steering wheel will be a nice addition.
We don’t know when the 2019 Mazda MX-5 Miata will arrive, but according to at least one report, production of the 2018 model has already stopped to get ready for the updated 2019 model.
