Jaguar’s first electric car is here! The 2019 Jaguar I-Pace debuted today ahead of its debut next week at the Geneva Motor Show. The electric I-Pace SUV will arrive in the U.S. in the second half of 2018 and a driving range up to 240 miles on a single charge.
The 2019 I-Pace doesn’t actually look that different from the concept version that previewed it. It’s cab forward design is nearly identical to the concept version. The I-Pace measures 184.3-inches long with a long 117.7-inch wheelbase.
A 90 kWh battery pack powers the I-Pace’s two electric motors placed on the front and rear axles. The two electric motors generate a combined 394 horsepower and 512 lb-ft. of torque to give the electric SUV a 0-60 mph time of 4.5 seconds. It also only takes 40 minutes to charge the battery up to 80 percent with a 100kW DC fast charger.
Inside the spacious interior offers up to 35-inches of legroom for the rear passengers and 25.3 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats up. Fold the seats down and the I-Pace has up to 51 cubic feet of space. A standard glass panoramic roof also makes the interior feel even more spacious. The roof and side windows are also able to absorb infrared light, which keeps the interior cool and does away with the need for a blind.
The I-Pace will also be the first Jaguar to use artificial intelligence machine learning to improve the driving experience. It’s also the first Jaguar to incorporate the intuitive InControl Touch Pro Duo infotainment system. It uses a combination of touchscreens, capacitive sensors and tactile physical controls to operate key functions. An available head-up display will also help keep the driver’s eyes on the road, while a 12.3-inch Interactive Driver Display lets the driver customize the information. Lastly the I-Pace will also arrive with Amazon Alexa Sill, which lets owners ask Alexa for information about their car. For example: Is my car locked? What is the charging level? Do I have enough range to get to work?
At launch it will be available in three trim levels: S, SE and HSE. A special First Edition model will be available for only the 2019 model year. Buyers will have several fabric choices for the seats. A Luxtec material, optional Grained Leather, Fine-Grain Windsor leather or a premium textile alternative that combines a wool-blend with recycled technical suede cloth.
Jaguar will announce the U.S. pricing for the 2019 I-Pace next week in Geneva. In the U.K. it’s priced at £63,495.
