The Ford Ranger is officially back! Ford has unveiled the 2019 Ford Ranger, which is finally coming back to the U.S. With the success of the Chevy Colorado, Toyota Tacoma and even the upcoming new Nissan Frontier, Ford has finally decided to re-enter the midsize truck segment with a new Ranger.
Even though it’s clearly related to the model that’s been on sale outside the United States, Ford says that the 2019 Ranger has been designed specifically for the the United States. Compared to the Ranger that’s been sold outside the United States, the front of the 2019 US-spec Ranger gets a new grille, headlights and bumper. The rear of the 2019 Ranger keeps the large vertical taillights and the tailgate features the Ranger name stamped across it, like the Toyota Tacoma.
Inside, the 2019 Ranger features an 8-inch touch screen for the available SYNC 3 system, while the instrument cluster features dual LCD productivity screens for real-time vehicle, navigation and audio information.
Under the hood the 2019 Ranger is powered a 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine that’s mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. Ford has not released the specs for the Ranger’s powertrain. The 2019 Ford Ranger will be offered in XL, XLT and Lariat trim levels with available Chrome and Sport appearance and FX Off-Road packages, and in SuperCab or SuperCrew body styles. The FX4 Off-Road Package provides adds off-road-tuned shocks, all-terrain tires, a frame-mounted heavy-gauge steel front bash plate, frame-mounted skid plates and FX4 badges.
“Ranger’s proven 2.3-liter EcoBoost provides a torque target on par with competing V6 engines, but with the efficiency of a four-cylinder,” said Thai-Tang. “When you pair that with its 10-speed transmission, you’ve got one of the most versatile, powerful and efficient powertrains in the segment.”
Production of the 2019 Ranger begins late this year at Ford’s Michigan Assembly Plant.
