Volvo has announced that the first all-new 2018 Volvo XC60 has rolled off the line at Volvo’s Torslanda plant in Sweden. The first 2018 XC60 was a T5 Inscription AWD in Crystal White. The arrival of the new XC60 is significant to Volvo, since it accounts for 30 percent of the automaker’s sales.
“This is a proud day for everyone at the plant,” said Magnus Nilsson, vice president of the Torslanda plant. “We have worked hard in recent weeks and months to prepare Torslanda for this latest new Volvo model, and now we are ready to start delivering new XC60s to customers.”
The arrival of the new XC60 kicks off the Volvo’s new 60 Series lineup, which also includes the S60 and V60 models. The new 60 Series follows the completion of the new flagship 90 Series models.
The new XC60 will arrive with plenty of new safety technology, like Steer Assist, which has been added to the City Safety system. A new safety system called Oncoming Lane Mitigation uses steer assist to help mitigate head-on collisions, while Volvo’s Blind Spot Indication System now uses Steer Assist functionality to reduce the risk of lane-changing collisions.
Volvo’s semi-autonomous driver assistance system, Pilot Assist is available in the new XC60 as an option.
The XC60 will be available with a range of new powertrains, but the most significant is the T8 Twin Engine petrol plug-in hybrid that generates 407 hp and accelerates the SUV from 0-62 mph in 5.3 seconds.
“The XC60 is an SUV not designed to look down on others but to drive. The exterior has an athletic sculpture with a subtle, timeless quality. The interior is a masterful composition of well-resolved architecture, beautiful materials and the very latest technology – all perfectly blended together. The XC60 provides a true Scandinavian experience which will make our customers feel special,” said Thomas Ingenlath, Senior Vice President, Design at Volvo Car Group.
