The future of diesel engines is still up in the air, but BMW has unveiled the most powerful 6-cylinder diesel engine to ever be offered in a road going car. The new BMW M550d xDrive is powered by a 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine that has an impressive four turbochargers to give it 400 horsepower and a healthy 560 lb-ft. of torque.
The six-cylinder is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission that sends all that power to the ground via all four wheels. The M550d xDrive will be offered in both sedan and wagon versions. The sedan reaches 62 mph in 4.4 seconds, but the wagon is a few ticks slower at 4.6 seconds. Both versions have an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph.
The visual updated to the M550d xDrive are small with the additions being an M aerodynamic package, an M sports suspension that lowers the ride height by 10 millimeters, Integral Active Steering and exclusive 19-inch M light
alloy wheels.

The M550d xDrive sedan will arrive this summer, while the wagon version will arrive before the end of the year. Now for the bad part: BMW has no plans to bring the M550d xDrive to the U.S.
