2018 Subaru WRX to get facelift, all-new model still years away

Although Subaru has released an all-new Impreza for the 2017 model year, we’ll have to wait a few more years for an all-new WRX and WRX STI. According to a Subaru engineer, the WRX is slated to get a facelift for 2018, but an all-new model won’t arrive until around 2020.

Although Subaru has released an all-new Impreza for the 2017 model year, we’ll have to wait a few more years for an all-new WRX and WRX STI. According to a Subaru engineer, the WRX is slated to get a facelift for 2018, but an all-new model won’t arrive until around 2020.
A Subaru engineer recently told Motoring that we’ll have to wait a bit for an all-new WRX, since the current model was only introduced in 2015. While we’d love for a new WRX based on the new Impreza platform, it’s easier said than done.

“It’s not the cost, but everything goes through a production cycle. You can’t shorten that production cycle, there’s many things to consider such as durability testing and likewise. It’s not as simple as taking the turbo engine out of one car and presto, off you go. You’re talking about complete suspension tune and a development team. It’s a big process.”

The updated 2018 WRX will likely debut sometime early next year.
