This fall midsize sedan buyers will have some new options with the arrival of the all-new 2018 Honda Accord and Toyota Camry models. To keep its own midsize sedan fresh, Hyundai has given the 2018 Hyundai Sonata a throughout refresh. Hyundai has announced that the updated 2018 Sonata will arrive this summer with a starting price set at $22,935.

The exterior of the 2018 Sonata is highlighted by a new “cascading grille” in front and a completely restyled rear. The hood, front fenders, and trunk are all new. There are also new alloy wheels, vertical LED DRLs, LED headlights, and LED taillights. Inside, the center stack and instrument panel have been redesigned to give the interior a more premium feel. There’s also a new three-spoke steering wheel and piano-key buttons for the audio and HVAC controls.

To improve the Sonata’s ride and handling, the rear suspension receives 21 percent thicker trailing arms to better manage heavy suspension loads, while new bushings allow for more ride compliance and quicker response times. The steering system’s torsion bar stiffness has been increased by 12 percent to improve steering responsiveness and new steering calibration further improves on-center feel.

The 2.0T turbocharged engine is mated to a new eight-speed automatic transmission, which adds ratio range at both the top and bottom for improved performance and efficiency.
