Last month the 2018 Honda Civic Type R set a new record in Belgium and now the hot hatch has done it again by setting a new record at the Silverstone GP circuit in the UK. The 2018 Civic Type R set a new front-wheel drive production car record, which was previously held by the 2016 Civic Type R.

For its latest record setting sprint, the Honda Civic Type R was piloted by British Touring Car Championship winner Matt Neal. According to Neal, “Where I found the real advantage of the Type R was really in the high-speed corners – the stability which is a combination of the aero and the new advanced suspension system. Into corners like Copse and Stowe at the end of the Hangar straight, you can carry big entry speed with supreme confidence.”

The latest record time at the Silverstone circuit is the fourth lap record for the new Honda Civic Type R. It all started in last April at the Nürburgring Nordschleife, where the Civic Type R set with a lap time of 7mins 43.8 seconds. Shortly after that WTCR driver, Esteban Guerrieri set a new record at the ‘Type R Challenge 2018’ with a 2 mins 1.51 seconds lap record for a front-wheel drive production car at the Magny-Cours GP circuit in France. Most recently Bertrand Baguette recorded a time of 2 minutes 53.72 seconds in the same car at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium.
