Ford revealed the updated 2018 F-150 earlier this year in Detroit, but now we have more details about the updated pickup. The 2018 Ford F-150 arrives with several bests, like best-in-class fuel economy ratings and a best-in-class tow rating.
The base engine in the 2018 F-150 is now a 3.3L V6 that replaces the old 3.5L. Even though it’s slightly smaller than the old V6, the 3.3L generates more power with 290 horsepower and 265 lb-ft. of torque. The 3.3L V6 is also more fuel efficient than the outgoing engine with a rating of 19/25 mpg if you choose the 4×2 model or 18/23 if you choose the 4×4 version.
Next up, a second-generation 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 is now mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. It’s rated at 20 mpg city, 26 mpg highway and 22 mpg combined, which is best-in-class. The second-generation 2.7-liter EcoBoost engine delivers a 25 lb.-ft. increase in torque.
The second-generation 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 delivers best-in-class towing capability with 13,200 pounds of towing capacity. The twin-turbo 3.5L EcoBoost engine delivers 375-horsepower and 470 lb-ft. of torque.
The F-150’s naturally-aspirated 5.0-liter V8 boasts a best-in-class payload capacity of 3,270 pounds. The V8 engine gets upgrades, like dual port and direct-injection that gives it 10 more horsepower and an additional 13 lb.-ft. of torque. The V8 is paired with the 10-speed SelectShift automatic.
Next spring an all-new 3.0-liter Power Stroke turbo diesel V6 paired with the 10-speed SelectShift automatic joins the F-150 engine lineup.
The 2018 F-150 will also be offered with Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection and adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality.
