2017 Toyota Highlander gets some updates for New York

Toyota is going to reveal the updated 2017 Highlander SUV this month at the 2016 New York Auto Show. The 2017 Highlander gets some styling updates, a new V6 and more technology.

On the outside, the 2017 Highlander gets a new grille, which gets a slightly different finish based on what trim level you choose. he grille on all LE, LE Plus and XLE grades will receive a silver painted finish, while Limited and Platinum grades will receive a painted chrome finish. The rear of the 2017 Highlander gets smaller updates, with new sleeker taillights and a chrome trim garnish will also be added on the rear bumper of Limited and Platinum models.

Under the hood, the Highlander gets a new 3.5L direct injection V6 that is mated to a eight-speed automatic transmission. Toyota hasn’t released the specs for the new engine, but it will be more powerful and efficient than the outgoing V6. The 2.7L four-cylinder engine will still be available on front-wheel drive LE models.

On the safety front, the 2017 Highlander will come standard with Toyota Safety Sense P (TSS), which is a new safety package anchored by automated pre-collision braking. TSS bundles several safety technologies including Pre-Collision System (with Forward Collision Warning and automatic emergency brake), Lane Departure Alert, Automatic High Beams, Pedestrian Pre- Collision System and Dynamic Radar Cruise Control.

Lastly a new SE trim level has been added that adds unique 19-inch wheels, a sportier suspension and a dark paint treatment to the front grille, which is also incorporated into the headlamp housings and roof rails. Inside it gets unique black leather- trimmed seats with silver stitching and pattern seat inserts
