Ever since the Tesla Model S came on to the market in 2012, it’s been the poster child for electric cars – everyone wants one and almost every automaker wants to beat it. The Model S proved that electric cars can be livable, fun and luxurious. While the Model S is far out of reach for many car buyers with its $70k starting price, it is a strong alternative to the flagship sedans from BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Audi. With all the hype around the Model S and Tesla, is the Model S really that great? Here are the five things you need to know:
1Driving range longer than some gas powered cars
Before the Model S arrived, the furthest you could expect to drive in an electric car was around 80-90 miles, on a good day. That driving range made electric cars a good second car, but not a viable alternative to the conventional combustion engine car. Enter the Model S with its different battery pack options that give you anywhere between 265-337 miles of range on a single charge.
Today there isn’t another electric car on the market with a longer driving range than the Model 3.
