2017 Scion FR-S to get updated styling and a little more power

Toyota has been pretty vocal about the fact that sales of the Scion FR-S have dropped off since it was introduced back in 2012. Sales of the FR-S were actually down 29 percent in April compared to a year ago, so hopefully an upcoming refresh to to the 2017 FR-S will help keep it alive.

Motoring is reporting that the current FR-S is expected to last for about eight years, which means a mid-cycle refresh is expected for the 2017 model year. Toyota hasn’t announced anything, but if the report is true, the 2017 FR-S will get updated styling and a slight horsepower bump, which is expected to be increased from the current 200 horsepower to around 208 horsepower. The horsepower gains will be due to a new intake manifold and a few other updates that improve engine friction.

The handling should also improve, since the 2017 FR-S will get some suspension upgrades and a reinforced rear suspension subframe. The updates will also be shared with the Subaru BRZ.
